Transitioning and Settling Your Baby
Whether you are considering placing your baby in childcare for the first time, or whether you are looking at alternatives to your current arrangement, it helps to know as much as possible, so that you can make an informed decision. And when it comes to your precious baby, you want peace of mind that when they’re not with you, they are in loving, safe, experienced and trusted hands.
How will Kindercare’s Baby Care Program Benefit your Baby?
- Secure, loving relationships: Relationships are about people and connection. Kindercare teachers take time to foster secure relationships with your child, by making sure that during the course of the day, your little one has their full attention. This builds trust and ultimately a foundation for all future relationships. Throughout the day, your child will have regular opportunities for intimate, one-to-one interactions that are unhurried and respectful. When your baby feels safe, loved and understood, they in turn begin to develop empathy and respect for others. These characteristics are not only critical for all future social learning, they’re also the beginning of social development outside of your child’s family.
- Healthy brain development and social emotional development: Your baby needs someone close by, who notices them, who recognises and understands their behavioural cues, and who is able to respond lovingly to their needs. When your child has a secure relationship with their teachers, they gain confidence in themselves. Your infant will feel connected, safe and have an understanding that, in this gentle environment, in the care of someone who is in tune with them, they are cherished and provided with creative opportunities to move freely and explore with all their senses. You and your baby will soon experience that what is initially a new and unfamiliar environment, becomes predictable and calm, allowing your child to feel totally at home at Kindercare.
- Skilled, qualified team: As a parent, it’s important that you trust the people who are caring for your little one. Your baby deserves to be in the protective care of those with the training, knowledge and understanding of how babies grow and develop in the early years. In a safe, loving environment, with teachers who enjoy spending time with your child, your little one will feel supported and confident to approach new and challenging tasks with enthusiasm, he/she will begin to learn skills needed for problem solving, developing social competence and the joy of having fun.
Learning is all about relationships, connection time, enthusiasm and love! And because learning starts from the moment your baby is born, let’s celebrate every moment.
Transition visits: if this is the first time that you and your baby are facing separation, over an extended period, we advise planning some shorter transition visits before the start of your official enrolment. This will give you, and your baby, time to become a little more familiar with the environment and to cope with short periods of separation first, before you leave them for a longer session or for the day. So spend some time in the room with them, having fun. Then, the next time, pop out for a coffee and leave them for a short period of time. Then leave them a little longer the next time so they are gradually becoming accustomed to not having you there, but knowing that they are safe, loved and that you will always return for them.
Sleep routines: we work as closely as possible with parents and home routines so that your baby is able to go down for their regular sleeps without totally disrupting any established routines that you have in place. You will find that, once settled, even the littlest babies sleep soundly for extended periods, while in our care. Our open sleeping arrangements mean that there is always someone to watch your baby and when they awaken, our teachers are able to respond quickly to them, with a reassuring cuddle.
Nappies: we do not supply nappies so please send along what your baby will need for the day.
Formula: we do not supply formula so please send along what your baby will need for the day.
