Curriculum

At Kindercare, we believe everything about your child is an original masterpiece and deserving of exceptional care and intentional learning. Our focus is on achieving outcomes that are specific to your child through play.

In these early years, nurturing relationships are vital for building your child's confidence, resilience, and self-esteem. We prioritise individual care and learning that develops their competence to enable them to become capable and confident lifelong learners.

Working in partnership with parents, we place children at the heart of everything we do. Our education program is designed around your child's interests and needs. We emphasise the understanding of identity, culture and language— knowing who they are as a learner and prioritising what matters most when developing their individual learning plan— all set within a play-based learning environment.

Our curriculum establishes the foundations for love, learning and life. The following underpins our learning program:

  • Te Whāriki He whāriki mātauranga mō ngā mokopuna o Aotearoa.
This is New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum, and
is a framework of principles and strands that support tamariki to develop their capability in becoming confident learners. We use effective assessment and ongoing evaluation practices to inform an individual learning plan that is inclusive and responsive to the needs of each child.
  • Care is the Curriculum.
Inspired by Dr Emmi Pikler and through our approach of Head Heart and Hands, we focus on respectful and loving care practices along with daily rituals to nurture reciprocal relationships between tamariki, whānau and Kaiako.
  • Social Emotional Development.
Our affiliation with “You Can Do It!” (YCDI) inspires our preschoolers developing understanding in a fun-filled way about behaviours and positive ways of thinking which is essential for their well-being and for them to learn successfully. This adaptable program is sensitive to cultural and language backgrounds and can be tailored to your child’s age, and cognitive developmental and social emotional maturity. YCDI provides a wide range of opportunities and contexts for your preschooler to learn the five essential social and emotional learning skills: resilience, organisation, confidence, getting along and persistence.

  • Movement as a foundation for learning.
We know approximately 90% of neural pathways are set for life in the first years, when your baby, toddler or preschooler is moving, this is stimulating their brain. The more the brain is stimulated, the more movement the body needs for further stimulation—and this dynamic process is learning. This is directly scribed from A Moving Child is a Learning Child:

"All learning begins with the body. It has to. It’s our point of reference. And for children,
it’s even more so because the body is
the brain’s first teacher. And the lesson plan is movement.”
