“Our childcare centre is located just off the motorway, making it easy for parents travelling into the inner city. It’s also just a short 2 minute walk to the train station and bus stop.
I support and encourage children living in the local and wider Tawa community and am a positive, passionate, supportive and dedicated leader, who works with an outstanding teaching team.
Our early childhood centre has been designed so that children of different ages can communicate with each other, over the fence or through large windows. We have many siblings in the centre and we pride ourselves on keeping those interactions strong.
This room is situated in a quiet, warm area in the centre, away from the busy main road and sheltered from the wind. This room cares for children from birth to about 18 months.
The “small” babies area is for those infants not quite on the move yet, as well as a wide open space for our children who are finding their feet in many ways. We also have our own outdoor area, surrounded by native trees, which are home to about 5 beautiful Tui birds.
A typical day in the Babies room consists of singing songs, dancing to music, painting, messy play, building with blocks, playing with balls and hoola-hoops and exploring the outdoor environment, all while incorporating individual children’s interests, beliefs and cultures.
We have a minimum of 3 mat times each day, just before lunch and morning and afternoon snack times. This provides important care routine and a predictable environment for the littlest ones and is an opportunity for us to bring all the children together before we eat.
At Kindercare, we like to give our little ones early learning experiences and opportunities to explore with messy play and painting, which is often a hard task to do at home. At Kindercare, our home-away-from-home, we have the facilities to support these fun and important interests and abilities.
This room is situated at the front of our centre. It’s in a prime spot for our toddlers, who love to watch all the cars, trucks and buses drive by the centre.
We have a large outdoor area, where they enjoy the flying fox, tunnel, play house, gazebo, wooden hut with bridge, water play, and bikes. With a very active age group, we strive to maintain good ratios in this room.
As there are frequently many children showing an interest in independent toileting at this age, this is when we start toilet training. We also encourage increasing autonomy and self-help skills, where children develop a sense of belonging in the centre environment.
We have a minimum of 3 mat times each day, just before morning and afternoon snacks and lunch time which not only provides important routines for children in the early childhood years, but also gives us the opportunity to bring all the children together before we eat.
A typical day in the Toddlers room consists of singing and dancing, musical instruments, dancing with ribbons, listening to stories and books, magnetic stories, parachute singing and dancing, sharing and caring games, follow the leader games, painting, clay, play dough, messy play (gloop), dramatic play, water play, and exploring the wider environment.
Preschool 1 room
This room is for our 2½ - 3½ year old children. We have a minimum of 3 mat times per day, believing children respond well to some structure and familiar routines in their day. A mat time would consist of singing and dancing, reading stories which children have shown a particular interest in, talking about a topic of interest, doing a ‘show and tell’, puppet plays, parachute singing and dancing.
At Kindercare we like to have everything accessible for children and so we have the resources out and available for the children to make their own decisions about what they want to do.
The Preschool 1 room have their own outdoor area, with a hut and slide, sandpit, water trough, vegetable garden, obstacle course, bikes, balls and hoola-hoops. The majority of our children in this room are toilet trained or in the process of toilet training.
Preschool 2 room
This is where your 3½ and 4½ year old child will be cared for. As in Preschool 1, we like to have everything accessible to the children to let them make their own decisions about what they want to do.
We also provide more age appropriate learning experiences such as puzzles with smaller pieces or more pieces and longer mat times 3 times a day.
In preparation for school, we also introduce the Letterland system. This is a letter system where children learn a different letter of the alphabet each week. Each letter has a character, and their own book and song reflecting that letter. The children enjoy this early learning experience each week, where they often bring items from home which begin with the letter of the week.
At 3½ years old, we also introduce our exciting and innovative information technology program, called Cherry.Bytes. Once a week, these children go upstairs in the centre to our Cherry.bytes room where they are introduced to iPads - how to use them and their purpose, all incorporated into a fun and enjoyable session which is supervised by our Cherry.bytes teacher, on age-appropriate apps.
Our Preschool 2 room shares the largest playground with our Preschool 3 room.
Preschool 3 room
This is also our Transition to School room and caters for our 4½ - 5 year old children. In this room, we want to give your child the best transition to school experience that we possibly can because moving from early childhood to primary school is not only a huge step for children, but also for our parents too.
We do many group projects that follow the children’s strengths and interests, while also encouraging literacy and numeracy in all areas. As the children enter this room, they often sign themselves in, using their literacy skills of writing and identifying their own names.
Every day we do a minimum of 3 mat times. At this age children are able to retain more information and sit for a longer period of time, so these mat times are based on the children’s interests, which provides an excellent tool for learning and development.
In preparation for school, we also continue with the Letterland system and further develop our Cherry.bytes program to challenge the children’s information technology abilities, interests and skills. Once a week, the children go up stairs in the centre to our Cherry.Bytes room where they work in pairs on iPads, making exciting discoveries, in fun, interactive sessions.

About Our Centre:
Our purpose-built childcare centre in Tawa, Wellington opened in March 2011 and is licensed to provide outstanding care and early childhood education for children from infancy through to when they are ready to go to school, which is usually at 5yrs of age.
The centre is designed so that children spend time in rooms where the environment is appropriate for their developmental age and stage. Each room has their own outdoor areas which are also appropriate for their age and stage.
Your child will be cared for in relaxed, safe indoor and outdoor environments, with lots of varied and fun-filled opportunities.

We’re open daily throughout the year, (except for weekends and statutory holidays), 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
Parents and families are warmly welcome to pop in at any time during the day to visit us and have a look around. And we love you to bring your child along too so we can meet them and introduce them to Kindercare.
Included in your fee, Kindercare provides a nutritious, cooked midday meal which is prepared at the centre daily. We also provide healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks.
Bottles/formula and nappies are not provided so parents are asked to send what your child needs for the day.
