Looking for childcare Upper Hutt, daycare Upper Hutt or preschool Upper Hutt?
You'll find what you're looking for at Kindercare in Upper Hutt, which is in the dedicated and experienced hands of our centre director, Tessa Tipene.
What We Offer:
“Located on Whakatiki Street, our beautiful childcare centre is surrounded by mature trees, making our outdoor play areas park-like in appearance and beautifully shaded in the summer.
Because we care for and educate young children, we’re committed to providing a fun-filled, welcoming environment where your child feels at home, and able to explore and discover the wonders that are waiting for them.
It's the heart-centred approach we have towards care, the skills of our team and the carefully designed set-up of our rooms that enable us to cater for the individual needs of your child.
And because families matter to us, developing a strong partnership with you as the parent is absolutely essential to achieving the best outcomes for your little one.
Families have choices at our centre: full or part time care for your baby, toddler or preschooler as well as Sessional Care for 3 and 4 year olds – with the option of either a morning or afternoon session, or a longer session (9am – 3pm) to prepare your older preschooler for their transition to school.
When you place your very precious baby in the care of the Fantails room at our centre in Upper Hutt, you’re choosing a homely, respectful environment, where your infant will be nurtured through regular, gentle moments of care, throughout the day.
And because your little one has his/her own routine at this age, we work as closely as possible with parents to meet your needs, respect cultural heritage and follow your child’s home routine.
Fostering a tender, loving relationship with your baby is our priority, so there’s lots of time for one-on-one moments, cuddles, intentional interactions, and focussed attention to get to know your baby.
Freedom to move in a safe environment are essential for your baby’s physical growth and brain development so that’s why you’ll find your child has lots of time and space to move and make discoveries.
Your baby will be engaged and have lots of fun with sensory activities and movements for their little hands and feet to explore, and with mat times, story time and songs, in a variety of different languages.
Outdoor time is an exciting part of the daily program too. So weather permitting, your little one will have time for exploration and to practise their walking and climbing skills in our spacious outdoor environment.
Your busy toddler will fit right into the fun in our Kiwi Room where he/she will discover so many opportunities to explore, engage in a range of activities that make the most of his/her boundless energy and feel safe exerting his/her growing sense of autonomy and independence.
Learning happens naturally when your little one feels that they belong and are settled and secure, within loving relationships. It’s a joy to work with this age group who have such enthusiasm for learning and are passionately curious.
In these early years, your child is laying the foundations that are essential for them to succeed at formal learning when they go to school. That’s why your toddler will be loving engaged in opportunities that promote physical activity, language development, sensory exploration and the development of their social skills.
While maintaining predictable routines through the day, the Toddlers room is flexible to allow your child time to assess and then respond to his/her surroundings at his/her own pace. We are happy to work with you and support your child gently through toilet training.
The Fantail and Kiwi rooms share a great outdoor environment, created to meet the unique needs of this stage of development. Physical play and activity is so important for your child’s holistic development and is an important opportunity for your toddler to spend time close to nature, enjoy the beautiful trees in our playground, and play with the leaves.
Wonderful messy activities like sand and water play give your little one a chance to interact with nature, exploring through the use of all their senses.
It’s so important that your preschooler is having fun while they’re learning. That’s why our team of Teachers in our four preschool rooms offer your child plenty of learning and development opportunities – one-on-one, small group and in larger groups.
Teachers focus on noticing what your child is doing or showing interest in, recognising how they can develop this learning experience and responding by providing varied experiences, interactions and group activities to further extend your child’s interests.
A flexible routine and program creates a familiar environment for your child so they have clear expectations of special moments through their day.
Your preschooler will be encouraged to contribute and negotiate at mat time, enjoy some independent learning, initiate exploration and discovery and feel supported in establishing and building friendships.
As your little one is learning to manage their emotions and develop strategies for creating positive and meaningful outcomes in a wide variety of social situations, it’s essential that they feel safe and valued. That’s why you’ll find this is another area we focus on with your child.
Special Features of the Preschool Room:
The community Library Bus visits our centre every fortnight which is a very exciting event as your child is able to jump on board and choose a story and hear a few too!
Cherry.bytes is our information technology program for our 3½ - 5yr old children. This is a weekly session during which your child will enjoy innovative learning on an iPad, supervised at all times by our Cherry.bytes teacher – this is just another tool for interactive learning and discovery.
Letterland is our early literacy program which is a fun imaginary land of letters. Each week, using songs and games, a new letter is introduced, so your child has fun learning phonetically about the correct sound and letter formation.
“You Can Do It” is our fantastic program that develops your child’s social and emotional competence, through the use of puppets. This program teaches your child skills like organisation, resilience and persistence that they will need at school, and throughout their life.
Transition To School Program:
During the last six months that your child is in our care, before they take the next exciting big step into primary school, they will be in the Transition to School Room, where the focus is predominantly on preparing them for school.
All children anticipate the move to school differently so our focus will be on ensuring we support your preschooler individually, to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible for them.
Regular “Lunch Box Days” provide your child with opportunities to learn about how to manage and eat a packed lunch – something we sometimes take for granted. Amongst other things, your child will learn how to undo wrappers and promote a healthy approach to eating.
Letterland and our “Home Reading Program” are two fun features that encourage a fun and interactive attitude towards early literacy – that you can share with your child at home too.
We may be saying goodbye to your little one at 5yrs old, but it matters to us that they have had a good foundation in early childhood, so their early experience of primary school and formal education is positive and exciting.
As well as a wealth of knowledge, experience and commitment to providing creative learning opportunities for your child, you’ll find our team are dedicated to caring for your child within a culture of kindness.
They smile and laugh often; they’re fun-loving; they bring joy to your child’s day; they celebrate their achievements; and they’ll nurture a warm, loving attachment to your child.
A focus for our team is real life learning experiences and creating strong community links. That’s why they arrange for fire-trucks, the police and ambulance service from the local community to visit the centre – bringing learning to life for your child.
Connections with the local primary schools are important too, because this assists your older preschooler with a smooth transition. In the Morepork room, your child will go with their teacher and a few other children, on exciting visits to a couple of local primary schools, to introduce them to this environment and give them an idea of what school is like.
Meal times provide the perfect opportunity to role model and teach children about healthy eating, independence and the social benefits of sharing a meal.
Our teachers sit with the children for their morning and afternoon snack and for the midday meal, as it’s a great opportunity to have conversations and encourage children to participate in the social occasion.
We’re sure your child will love the hot,home-cooked midday meal our Cook prepares fresh, daily, at the centre. She is passionate about serving a menu that is nutritionally balanced and meets the needs of your child, at each stage of development. And she welcomes your feedback.
My Commitment to You
I joined Kindercare in February 2009, at our centre in Boulcott. I then moved to our centre in Whakatiki Street at the end of 2012 when I was appointed to my current position as Centre Director.
I’m passionate about providing the very best outcomes for your precious child, while in our care. I really enjoy watching children's growth and development and how they acquire new skills - whether that be taking their first step or mastering a tricky puzzle that they've spent a lot of time trying to complete.
What I find so rewarding is those times when I'm out in our community, and I see or hear about the children that I have cared for and educated - it's knowing that I've had a part in that child's life and their early development.
This is such an amazing time in your little one’s life, that my team and I are honoured to be able to share with you.
The First Step:
We warmly invite you to visit – we love visitors and the opportunity to show you our exciting, creative and beautiful play spaces where your child will be kept safe, loved and learning. At a time that suits you, give me a call or pop in with your little one and let’s see how we can help you.
