Transition to School

Like you, we want the best for your child. So we don’t compromise on safe, supportive, care and education. Our team works hard to ensure your family receives the highest standard of care for your weekly fee, which includes:

  • a generous annual leave allowance
  • a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at the centre daily – so you won’t need to pack kai
  • healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning
  • our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice and support for every family

Because every child has different needs, we ask that you supply your child’s own bottles, formula and nappies for each day.

If you would like to learn more about our fees, enrolment schedules or space availability, please let us know. We’re happy to talk through any questions or provide whatever information you may need, to help you make the best decision for your child and your family.

What’s the first step?

We understand that leaving your child in someone else’s care is a big decision. So we’d like to assure you that at our established daycare centre, you’re taking the first step in choosing a place where your child will be cherished and thrive in a setting that weaves values, virtues and kindness into all aspects of centre life, and your child’s day. We’d love to show you. Simply give us a call to arrange a visit, at a time that is convenient for you.

Why choose our centre?

Providing safe, loving care and learning since 1983, our centre is designed to provide safe, nurturing care and learning, while recognising that it all begins with knowing and understanding you and your family and whānau. So, we build a strong, meaningful partnership with you, to give us a clear picture of your aspirations for your child - and of how we can meet their individual needs through loving care and play-based learning. Daily chats, family evenings and picnics are just some of the many ways we’ll stay connected with you about your child.

Our care and learning

At each stage of your child’s extraordinary development through their preschool years, we believe in giving them the opportunity to explore, discover, challenge and extend their abilities, especially nurturing their social and emotional development.

Like you, we know your child is capable and competent, and we want to encourage their love of learning by giving them opportunities to choose what they’d like to do each day, in both our indoor and outdoor areas. This will help them to develop a growth mindset - learning skills like resilience, persistence, confidence, getting along with others, and self-help. We’ll also invite them to enjoy some planned learning experiences, based on their individual interests and needs.

And because your child’s nutritional needs are so essential to their healthy growth and development, we’ve teamed with ‘Nourished Beginnings’ to ensure your child enjoys nutritional, vegetarian meals, each day. Meeting the specific requirements of paediatric nutrition, these meals are also key times in the day where we can help foster your child’s social skills, while learning the importance of healthy food for their bodies.

Kiwi Room (babies and toddlers room)

When it comes to your precious baby or toddler, we understand the importance of building trust and a sense of belonging within a calm, nurturing environment.

Here, your pēpi will receive the loving, individualised care you want for them because like you, we’re responsive to their unique cues and needs. We’ll also provide opportunities for your little one to explore and discover within our sensory-rich indoor and outdoor play areas.

Our Kaiako are passionate about toddlers and we’ll ensure your busy child is lovingly encouraged to be curious, make their own choices and discoveries, and explore in an environment that supports what they love to do. And just like the babies, we’ll respond to their cues and rhythms, while recognising and supporting their sense of independence and ‘can do’ mindsets.

Tūī Room (young preschooler room)

When your child moves up to this room as a young preschooler, our Teachers are there to nurture their curiosity and develop their independence through affectionate care and fun-filled learning activities. We’ll continue to encourage your child’s innate sense of enquiry through active exploration, investigation, wonder and discovery. Our intentionally planned play-based learning experiences are based on your child’s emerging and favourite interests, with daily opportunities for your preschooler to socialise alongside other tamariki

A key focus at this age is on supporting your little one’s willingness to do things ‘all by myself’ through the development of self-help skills

Pūkeko Room (preschool and transition to school room)

We believe a successful transition into school begins in early childhood, with fostering your child’s love of learning, and the foundational skills they’ll need for formal education and their move to school. Through play, conversations and guided project work, they’ll have heaps of fun learning skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, resilience and negotiating. Mastering these competencies will also help your child build confidence, as well as new friendships

We’ll also nurture your preschooler’s school readiness through our specially designed programs that introduce early literacy (including home reading), numeracy and digital awareness, while further developing the social and emotional competencies they will need for kura.

Because like you, we want to ensure your child has the smoothest possible transition into primary school.

Our world of outdoor play

While enjoying our outdoor play spaces, your child will be encouraged to care for their environment. This will include fun-filled opportunities to plant, water and harvest our vegetable and flower gardens. They’ll also love the chance to feed our worm farms and help each other ‘tidy-up’.

We incorporate active movement into your child’s day, at each stage of their development, because we recognise that it is critical for brain development. To further support this, at our centre we offer Sports4Tots – a parent paid activity. If you choose to enrol your child for this, they will participate in a weekly fun-filled session at our centre, during school term times.

As Sports4Tots is for preschool age children, your little one will need to be between 2 and 5 years old. We know they’ll love learning fundamental sports skills, coordination, balance, and the value of play, all in a positive team environment. For more information, go to:
