What’s the first step?
Families matter to us at our Botany Downs daycare centre, so we encourage you and your child to come in for a visit to explore our safe, friendly world of discovery. This is just the beginning of the strong, supportive relationship we want to build with you.
We value your involvement and participation throughout your child’s early learning and development, whether it’s sharing news from home, working together on a learning goal, volunteering at our centre, or sharing a special skill with your child’s room. Here, your contributions will be welcomed and appreciated. Together, we can help your child to reach their full potential.
Why choose Kindercare Botany Downs Childcare Centre?
Providing safe, loving care and learning since 1998, our centre is designed to care for your child from infancy through to preschool and when they are ready for primary school. Because we understand that when your child feels secure and nurtured, they will have the confidence to explore freely, challenge themselves, learn essential foundation skills, and have fun.
So, when you choose Kindercare Botany Downs, you’re choosing a team who are passionate about early childhood care and education, about diversity, and about helping your child reach their full potential through play-based learning and supported by our strong, trusting partnership with family and whānau.
Our care and learning
At our childcare centre, we believe in providing safe, nurturing care for your child, in an environment where they’ll be happy, and love to learn. For this reason, our program of gentle are and intentional ensures your little one will have fun, as they grow and develop, acquiring the skills they need to succeed at school and into their lives. You’ll find this is reflected in each of our five calm, spacious rooms that are specially designed to keep your child actively engaged, each day.
Our centre embraces the cultural diversity of every child in our care. So, we’d love for you to share your family’s heritage and culture with us, and with your child’s room. And we look forward to celebrating various cultural events with your whānau, throughout the year. These include Diwali, Christmas, Matariki, Chinese New Year, Anzac Day, and Easter.
Kiwi Room (Babies Room)
We believe the best possible care and learning for babies begins with a loving relationship, built on trust, in a calm environment. That’s why our dedicated Botany Downs team in this room is committed to providing consistent, nurturing care for your baby. It’s our way of giving your infant the confidence and security to explore our safe, settled environment - and their very own sensory-rich outdoor play area. And because we get to know your baby, we are able to recognise their needs and respond to them individually so they trust we will be there for them – and you’ll have peace of mind.
Tūī Room (Toddlers Room)
We understand your precious toddler is on-the-go and passionately curious - and we love to embrace every moment of that. So you’ll discover a team who love working in this age group, and ensure your child feels safe, loved and nurtured, as they learn and develop through play. Your toddler will be treasured in an environment where they’ll enjoy a variety of fun-filled opportunities, which include physical challenges, tactile exploration, sensory play, and experimentation – with plenty of cuddles along the way.
Kea Room (Toddlers Room)
In this room, we help your slightly older toddler develop their foundation skills and independence through safe exploration and play-based learning. Your little one will have the freedom to explore their indoor spaces, as well as their outdoor playground, while participating in fun-filled activities that awaken their senses and capabilities. Most importantly, we’ll be there to provide lots of affection and build a relationship with them that gives them the confidence and security to enjoy new discoveries each day.
Pūkeko Room (Preschool Room)
We understand the importance of developing your preschooler’s social and emotional competence as they grow, while feeling settled and a sense of belonging in our care. Through the loving guidance of our nurturing team, your preschooler will be encouraged to start developing a ‘can do’ attitude that enables them to make their own decisions, be creative and express themselves appropriately. Through our Cherry.bytes program, the tamariki also have the opportunity to use technology as a tool to support their learning and build their foundation skills. Using iPads, under the guidance of a specialised Kaiako, your little one will safely use the multimedia advantages of the digital world in a way that intentionally encourages their social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language development.
Takahē Room (Transition to School Room)
We believe in providing your child with the best possible transition into primary school, which is why our Transition to School program is designed to do just that. We’ll support your child in the development of those critical foundation skills they’ll need to ensure success in a formal learning environment. We do this through our ‘You Can Do It’ program – which is about social and emotional development to build your child’s confidence, resilience and persistence, plus their organisational skills and ability to get along with others. It’s our way of giving your child the best possible start at school and in their lives.
Our world of outdoor play
Physical activity is part of our program, through each stage of development. Why? Because we know that movement is at the heart of your child’s intellectual, social and physical development. Our safe, expansive outdoor spaces provide tamariki with opportunities to play, explore, discover, experiment and make friends through physical activity. They’re intentionally designed to introduce new skills and enable your child to challenge themselves, as they grow.
We incorporate active movement into your child’s day, at each stage of their development, because we recognise that it is critical for brain development. To further support this, at our centre we offer Sports4Tots – a parent paid activity. If you choose to enrol your child for this, they will participate in a weekly fun-filled session at our centre, during school term times.
As Sports4Tots is for preschool age children, your little one will need to be between 2 and 5 years old. We know they’ll love learning fundamental sports skills, coordination, balance, and the value of play, all in a positive team environment. For more information, go to: https://sports4tots.co.nz/
