Transition to School

Our team is committed to ensuring your whānau receives outstanding care and education for your weekly fee because, like you, we only want the best for your child. And that’s why we don’t compromise on safe, loving, care and education. Your weekly fee, which includes:

  • a generous annual leave allowance
  • a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at thecentredaily – so you won’t need to pack kai
  • healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning
  • our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice and support for every family

Because your child’s needs are different from those of other tamariki, we ask that you supply their own bottles, formula and nappies for each day.

Want to know more about our fees, enrolment schedules or space availability? No problem – just let us know. We’re happy to talk through any questions or provide whatever information you may need, to help you make the best decision for your child and your whānau

What’s the first step?

You may be considering daycare for the first time or looking at alternatives to your current arrangements. Whatever your reason, we keep it simple: Pop in for a visit when it works for you, or simply call us to set up a time. And because your child’s wellbeing is our focus, please bring them along. We’d love to meet them, too, and introduce them to our safe, friendly world of fun and discovery.

Why choose our centre?

As well as providing the safe, loving care you want for your child, our early childhood centre is all about providing exciting, sensory-rich environments where your son or daughter can learn, grow, and have fun – particularly outdoors where we have beautiful native trees and tūī birds, a vegetable garden, and more.

Your whānau will be welcomed into our relaxed centre by our friendly team. We’re passionate about early childhood care and education, fully committed to building a warm, nurturing and loving relationship with your child, and supporting your family and whānau. Our centre layout is designed so that siblings can interact throughout the day

Our team want to hear about your aspirations for your child, your childcare needs and important details about your whānau. The more we know and understand about you and your child, the better we’re able to partner with you, and respond to your child, while in our care – with affection, cuddles, and flexible, creative and challenging learning experiences.

Our care and learning

We believe the best care begins when your child feel safe and loved, while giving them plenty of fun-filled opportunities to help them learn, grow and reach their full and amazing potential. So, our care and learning is focused on building your child’s foundation skills, learning disposition and social/emotional/physical development through programs that support their stage of development, interests and needs.

Kiwi Room (babies room)

We believe babies need to feel safe, loved and respected, which gives them the confidence to learn and grow. And that’s what makes our Kiwi Room the perfect place for your pēpi. In our calming, sensory-rich environment, we give your child that all-important security through a gentle, consistent care routine. This includes their participation in regular mat times, which also allows your child to spend time with other babies at a similar stage of development.

Your infant will have the freedom to explore stimulating, play-based activities, that meet their individual needs. These include singing, dancing, painting, messy play, building with blocks, and playing with balls and hoola hoops. Whether they’re participating in our wide-open indoor space, or the outdoor area with native trees and tūī birds, your baby will truly be cherished in our ‘home-away-from-home’.

Tūī Room (toddlers room)

We embrace the independence, curiosity, and all the energy that is your amazing toddler in this wonderful stage of their development. Our nurturing team are here to ensure your child feels safe, loved and responded to

Because we offer a flexible, relaxed day and a predictable routine, toddlers thrive in our early childhood environment. And because your child will have the opportunity to participate in regular mat times throughout the day, they’ll be able to spend time with other tamariki at a similar stage of development.

Building on our care and learning in the Kiwi Room, our play-based learning continues to support your child’s development of essential foundational skills as well as self-help skills like toilet training – which we do when your child is ready.

Fun-filled days include singing, dancing, musical interests, listening to stories, sharing and caring games, painting, play dough, dramatic play and more. Your child will love exploring and making discoveries in our expansive outdoor area, that includes a flying fox, tunnel, playhouse, gazebo, wooden hut with bridge, water play, and bikes.

Pūkeko Room (preschool 1 room)

We understand that making friends, language skills and a love of learning are essential to all tamariki, throughout their lives. And we help your child with these and more in this preschool room. Secure in the familiarity of their daily routine, along with play-based learning both indoors and out, your child will develop social, emotional and physical skills, while having fun.

During our daily mat times, for example, your child will be invited to enjoy activities like singing, dancing, listening to stories, and participate in conversations around the current topics and projects in their room.

Outdoors, your little one will explore their playground, which includes a hut with slide, sandpit, water trough, vegetable garden, bikes and more. It’s all of the enjoyment and learning your child could want – and they thrive on the choices.

Takahē Room (preschool 2 room)

In this room for our slightly older preschool tamariki, the safe loving care and learning continues Your child will enjoy play-based learning indoors and outside, while continuing to develop their social, emotional and physical skills. Here, they’ll participate in slightly longer mat times with fun, age-appropriate activities such as puzzles with smaller, or more, pieces. We weave in early literacy and early numeracy through interactive learning programs that also help to foster digital awareness. And our tamariki in this room love sharing so to creative even more opportunities for fun and socialising, this room shares our centre’s large playground with our Kōtuku Room.

Kōtuku Room (preschool 3 and transition to school room)

Moving on to primary school is a big step for tamariki and their whānau. That’s why we’ve designed this room to prepare your four-and-a-half to five-year-old for a smoother transition into school. We guide your preschooler through group projects that encourage curiosity, foster their interests, strengths and social skills, while continuously incorporating literacy and numeracy opportunities. For example, by signing themselves in each day, your child will practice the literary skills of writing and identifying their own names. This learning is linked to other fun-filled programs like Letterland. And by participating in regular mat times, with a wide variety of different topics, your child will continue to build foundation skills.

All of this will give your child the support they need as they make the exciting move on to primary school.

Our world of outdoor play

Movement and active play is at the heart of your child’s intellectual, social and physical development. And that’s why our childcare centre offers safe, expansive outdoor spaces where your child can play, explore, discover, experiment and make friends through physical activity.

These include a natural, tree-adorned area for babies. A toddler-centred area with flying fox, wooden hut, bridge and more. A large, impressive playground for preschoolers, which includes a hut and slide, bike track and vegetable garden.

These areas not only support your little one’s growth and learning, but also their individual development to enable them to transition smoothly into the next age group environment.
