Kia ora,

I’m Rozanna Mene and it’s my privilege and pleasure as Centre Director to welcome you to our exceptional Kindercare centre in Mairangi Bay. Our team of long serving teachers work in partnership with you, our parents and whānau, to foster a strong sense of belonging for tamariki in our care. We’re intentional about creating calm, nature inspired play spaces within our generous sized environments where the children are safe, loved and learning

Kaiako ensure that children’s creativity and curiosity is encouraged through a highly responsive inquiry-based curriculum where the focus is on fun. For our youngest children, our experienced infant and toddler teachers work to provide an atmosphere of quiet and respectful care working in partnership with you every step of the way. I take pride in it being a centre where kindness and second mile service is at the heart of all that we do. You can take comfort that your precious child is in safe, loving hands.

We celebrate families and whānau because you matter, and that’s why we offer full day, part time and sessional care to meet the unique needs of your family.

Being supportive and flexible for all our families, creates a sense of community to ensure that we are here to partner and walk with you and your child through their preschool years. Please know that you are welcome anytime to visit and we look forward to seeing you soon.

What’s the first step?

Whether you’re looking at childcare for the first time or considering alternatives to your current arrangements, we understand and we’re here to help. Pop in for a visit when it best suits you, or simply call us to set up a time. And because your child’s wellbeing is our focus, please bring them along. We’d love to meet them, and introduce them to our safe, friendly world of fun and discovery.

Why choose our centre?

  •  We are passionate about early childhood education and fully committed to building a warm, nurturing, and loving relationship with your child, your family and whānau.

  • We have been supporting and provided outstanding early care and education as part of this community since 1993.

  • Every child in our care is unique and we make time to hear about your aspirations for your child, your childcare needs and important details about your family.

  • From the moment you walk into our childcare centre, we welcome you as part of our whānau. Our multicultural team will journey with you, nurturing your child through each stage of development, supporting them in preparation for school.

  • We are a Nourished Beginnings Centre, providing wholefoods to support your growing child’s nutritional needs. For more information  click here

Our care and learning

The best care and learning begin with ensuring your child feels safe and loved, while giving them plenty of fun-filled opportunities to help them learn and grow. When we notice what interests your child, Kaiako are able to recognise their unique needs and individual behaviour, and then respond in a personal way. Our ‘Care and Play’ curriculum allows your child to have fun, while being involved in a wide range of activities (appropriate for each developmental stage), to build on and improve skills including: reflexes, vision, hearing, sensory awareness, spatial awareness, direction, midline, patterns, memory, and visual discrimination. Ensuring these critical foundations are laid in the early years, enables your child to achieve greater success in formal learning (literacy and numeracy), at school.

Our world of outdoor play

Did you know that when tamariki are moving, the body is teaching the brain, and this lays down essential pathways for future learning? That’s why your child will benefit from our large outdoor spaces because they provide freedom for play and movement, which has such a positive impact on your child’s development.

“Movement is at the very core of how children develop intellectually, emotionally, socially and, of course, physically. That’s why Moving Smart offers programs to foster children’s natural move-to-learn style, while helping parents and Teachers to understand the comprehensive benefits of all that wriggling!” (Gill Connell)

As well as daily time outdoors for physical activity, play and exploration, our outdoor area has beautiful mature trees, a worm farm, vege garden and fruit trees.

Your child will be encouraged and given regular opportunities to be involved in planting and taking care of the gardens and trees, and cultivating the worm farm – all of which provide creative, real-life learning experiences for your child.

Like you, we want the best for your child. So, we don’t compromise on safe, supportive, care and education. Our team works hard to ensure your family receives the highest standard of care for your weekly fee, which includes:

  • a generous annual leave allowance

  • a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at the centre daily – so you won’t need to pack kai

  • healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning

  • our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice, and support for every family

Kiwi and Ruru Rooms (younger and older babies rooms)

We believe your baby should be cherished and feel safe, loved, and respected. That’s why we offer your baby consistent, responsive care, along with opportunities to explore in a calming, sensory-rich environment. Your infant will be entrusted to a key Kaiako, who will provide familiar assurance and gentle moments of care throughout the day, because they’ll take the time to get to know your baby. Your baby’s Journal is a way for us to share information and we document your child’s personal journey, so you don’t miss those precious moments.

Tūī Room (toddlers room)

Energy, curiosity, growing independence, repetition, eagerness to learn – we understand toddlers. That’s why, our team in this room love working with this age group, and having the opportunity to implement a "Care and Play" curriculum in an environment that’s responsive to this stage of development.

Offering a low teacher-child ratio in a calm, smaller-room atmosphere, our Kaiako ensure your child feels safe, loved, and attended to, while helping them develop self-help skills and sense of independence. Learning through interest-based play, your child will grow and have fun, as they spend their day with Kaiako who make it a priority to spend time with your child, chatting to them, building trust, and fostering a loving, close connection – because relationships matter.

Pūkeko and Kākāpō Rooms (preschool rooms)

We understand the importance of fostering language development and providing a range of play-based learning opportunities for your child, both inside and outside, each day. Our fun-filled programs will introduce your preschool child to the alphabet/early literacy, build social and emotional capabilities, and foster digital awareness. Small group interactions further your child’s learning, while helping them form positive friendships.

Takahē and Kererū Rooms (transition to school rooms)

Moving on to school is an exciting time as well as a time of change, sometimes accompanied by some apprehension. The better your child is prepared for this transition, the easier it is for them to settle into the primary school environment.

An integral aspect of our transition to school curriculum is the ongoing focus on project work, “small group times” and inquiry-based learning, giving your child the opportunity to develop working theories that help them make sense of the material, social, natural, and physical world.

In this room, your child will be in the care of a skilled, qualified Kaiako, with the experience and knowledge to create and work with small, interactive extension groups, throughout the week. Building a strong bond with your preschooler – through focused time and individual attention - is a priority. It’s within affectionate relationships that Kaiako are able to weave in early numeracy, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, all of which support your child’s growth and development and ensure they’re ready to say goodbye to their early childhood years and move on to school.

A little about our team

We understand that deciding who to trust with the care of your child is a big step. That’s why we want to reassure you that our experienced, established team of qualified Kaiako are committed to keeping your preschool child safe, loved and learning. Passionate and actively engaged in early childhood learning, our team attend ongoing professional development to ensure your child is provided with the best possible care and learning. Recognising that you are your child’s first teacher, we know how important it is to work with you and that’s also why we encourage and support your contribution to your little one’s learning and development, because this creates a meaningful connection between home life and centre life. We look forward to forming a meaningful bond with you and your little one, while helping them reach their full potential in our care.

Hoiho Room (sessional care room)

Step inside our Hoiho room and you’ll immediately feel a sense of belonging and community.

Our inquiry-based approach to the program is driven by children’s interests and curiosities about the world around them which often stem into long-term projects.

The environment is intentionally prepared throughout the day with a wide variety of invitations and resources to provoke and extend children’s thinking and learning. Play allows for children to be independent, to think critically and creatively and to actively explore. Our warm, caring, and responsive teachers will support your child’s enquiring mind

Our outdoor environment enriches and nourishes our tamariki and plays a pivotal part in the program. With lush gardens there are daily opportunities for planting, harvesting, tending to the garden, worm farming and composting. Children have a wide range of ‘real’ resources to be active in their play, experiment with their ideas and be courageous in their discoveries. Sustainability is also important to our Hoiho program and our children are keen recyclers.

Our Hoiho program offers a variety of sessional structures, catering for your child 3-5 year olds. We’d love for you to step into our world and see the magic unfold. Please feel free to pop in and visit us anytime.
