Transition to School

Like you, we want the best for your child. So we don’t compromise on safe, supportive, care and education. Our team works hard to ensure your family receives the highest standard of care for your weekly fee, which includes:

  • a generous annual leave allowance
  • a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at the centre daily – so you won’t need to pack kai
  • healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning
  • our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice and support for every family

Because every child has different needs, we ask that you supply your child’s own bottles, formula and nappies for each day.

If you would like to learn more about our fees, enrolment schedules or space availability, please let us know. We’re happy to talk though any questions or provide whatever information you may need, to help you make the best decision for your child and your family.

What’s the first step?

Whether you’re looking at childcare for the first time or considering alternatives to your current arrangements, we understand and we’re here to help. Pop in for a visit when it works for you, or simply call us to set up a time. And because your child’s wellbeing is our focusplease bring them along. We’d love to meet them, too, and introduce them to our safe, friendly world of fun and discovery.

Why choose our centre?

Because at our daycare centre, your family will be welcomed by our friendly team, who are passionate about early childhood education and fully committed to building a warm, nurturing and loving relationship with your child, your family and whānau.

Having provided outstanding early care and education since 1993, our Kaiako understand how important it is to support you and your child through these early preschool years. So, we want to hear about your aspirations for your child, your childcare needs and important details about your family. The more we know and understand about you and your child, the better we’re able to respond to them in our care, through affection and cuddles, and flexible, creative and challenging learning experiences.

Our large outdoor areas with mature native and fruit trees offer your child plenty of space to explore, learn and make friends.

From the moment you walk into our childcare centre, we welcome you as part of a wider family. Our multi-cultural team bonds with tamariki as babies, and this is nurtured through each stage of development until they leave our care, to go to school.

Full and Part-time care

Our care and learning

The best care and learning begins with ensuring your child feel safe and loved, while giving them plenty of fun-filled opportunities to help them learn and grow. When we notice what interests your child, Kaiako are able to recognise their unique needs and individual behaviour, and then respond in a personal way. Our ‘Care and Play’ curriculum allows your child to have fun, while being involved in a wide range of activities (appropriate for each developmental stage), to build on and improve skills including: reflexes, vision, hearing, sensory awareness, spatial awareness, direction, midline, patterns, memory and visual discrimination. Ensuring these critical foundations are laid in the early years, enables your child to achieve greater success in formal learning (literacy and numeracy), at kura.

Kiwi and Ruru Rooms (babies rooms)

We believe your baby should be cherished and feel safe, loved and respected. That’s why we offer your pēpi consistent, responsive, care, along with opportunities to explore in a calming, sensory-rich environment.  Your infant will be entrusted to a key Teacher, who will provide familiar assurance and gentle moments of care throughout the day, because they’ll take the time to get to know your baby. Your baby’s Journal is a way for us to share information and we document your child’s personal journey, so you don’t miss those precious moments

Tūī Room (toddlers room)

Energy, curiosity, growing independence, repetition, eagerness to learn – we understand toddlers. That’s why, our team in this room love working with this age group, and having the opportunity to implement a "Care and Play" curriculum in an environment that’s responsive to this stage of development.

Offering a low teacher-child ratio in a calm, smaller-room atmosphere, our Kaiako ensure your child feels safe, loved and attended to, while helping them develop self-help skills and sense of independence. Learning through interest-based play, your child will grow and have fun, as they spend their day with Teachers who make it a priority to spend time with your child, chatting to them, building trust and fostering a loving, close connection – because relationships matter.

Pūkeko and Kākāpō Rooms (preschool rooms)

We understand the importance of fostering language development, and providing a range of play-based learning opportunities for your child, both inside and outside, each day. A number of fun-filled programs will introduce your preschool child to the alphabet/early literacy, build social and emotional capabilities, and foster digital awareness. Small group interactions further your child’s learning, while helping them form positive friendships.

Takahē and Kererū Rooms (transition to school rooms)

Moving on to kura is an exciting time as well as a time of change, sometimes accompanied by some apprehension. The better your child is prepared for this transition, the easier it is for them to settle into the primary school environment.

An integral aspect of our transition to school curriculum is the ongoing focus on project work, “small group times” and enquiry-based learning, giving your child the opportunity to develop working theories that help them make sense of the material, social, natural and physical world.
In this room, your child will be in the care of a skilled, qualified Teacher, with the experience and knowledge to create and work with small, interactive extension groups, throughout the week. Building a strong bond with your preschooler – through focused time and individual attention - is a priority. It’s within affectionate relationships that Kaiako are able to weave in early numeracy, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, all of which support your child’s growth and development and ensure they’re ready to say goodbye to their early childhood years and move on to school.

Our world of outdoor play

Did you know that when children are moving, the body is teaching the brain, and this lays down essential pathways for future learning? That’s why your child will benefit from our large outdoor spaces because they provide freedom for play and movement, which has such a positive impact on your child’s development.
One of the uniquely beneficial aspects of having your child in the care of our centre is our affiliation with “Moving Smart” and Gill Connell. Gill teaches us that “a moving child is a learning child” (Gill Connell, founder Moving Smart).
“Movement is at the very core of how children develop intellectually, emotionally, socially and, of course, physically. That’s why Moving Smart offers programs to foster children’s natural move-to-learn style, while helping parents and Teachers to understand the comprehensive benefits of all that wriggling!” (Gill Connell)
As well as daily time outdoors for physical activity, play and exploration, our outdoor area has beautiful mature trees, a worm farm, vege garden and fruit trees.
Your child will be encouraged and given regular opportunities to be involved in planting and taking care of the gardens and trees, and cultivating the worm farm – all of which provide creative, real-life learning experiences for your little one.

Sessional Care

This is a Sessional room for children to attend up to 20 hours per week. Children are able to attend morning, afternoon or 9am-3pm sessions throughout the week.

You will find that there are many ‘work’ stations set up to provide children with provocations for play. These provocations encourage children to critically think, enquire, problem solve and practice skills that they need when moving into the school environment. The tamariki are free to tinker and explore their beautifully set up environment.

Your child will benefit from hands-on learning, with real life experiences such as tending to our beautiful veggie garden, maintaining our worm farm, using sewing machines to sew their own designed clothes and cooking experiences. We also have lovely kai rituals throughout the day where children are able to sit, relax and chat with each other.

Parent partnership is important to us and the room has many parent events where you can share in your child’s learning and as well as meet other parents. We’d love to show you around this very special room, set up to inspire wonder and curiosity.

We incorporate active movement into your child’s day, at each stage of their development, because we recognise that it is critical for brain development. To further support this, at our centre we offer Sports4Tots – a parent paid activity. If you choose to enrol your child for this, they will participate in a weekly fun-filled session at our centre, during school term times.

As Sports4Tots is for preschool age children, your little one will need to be between 2 and 5 years old. We know they’ll love learning fundamental sports skills, coordination, balance, and the value of play, all in a positive team environment. For more information, go to:
