Transition to School
We don’t compromise on safe, supportive, care and education because like you, we want the best for your child. So our team works hard to ensure your whānau receives the highest standard of care for your weekly fee, which includes:
- a generous annual leave allowance
- a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at the centre daily – so you won’t need to pack kai
- healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning
- our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice and support for every family
And, because every child has different needs, we ask you to supply your child’s own bottles, formula and nappies for each day.
Need to know more about our fees, enrolment schedules or space availability? Please chat to us. We’re happy to talk through any questions or provide whatever information you may need, to help you make the best decision for your child and your whānau.
What’s the first step?
We understand starting daycare can be a big change for any whānau. That’s why we’re here for you - to answer any questions or concerns you may have, before beginning your time in our care. If this is the first time you and your child will be separated for extended periods of time, we advise you to start with some shorter transition visits before their first day of enrolment. This will give your little one time to become a little more familiar with their surroundings and new faces, while also allowing you the opportunity to get to know our safe, loving environment. We will be there to support you as you gradually become more at ease with being apart, because we believe in partnering with whānau throughout your child’s journey with us.
Why choose our centre?
Since 1998, our small childcare centre, with a big heart, has been offering safe, loving care and creative learning for children from infancy until they are ready for primary school. Providing a home-away-from-home atmosphere and culture, your child will be cared for alongside children of a similar age and stage of development.
Each fun-filled indoor and outdoor space is intentionally planned to provide the nurturing care, inspiring learning and social opportunities best suited to your child’s individual needs. Our team is committed to partnering with you as closely as possible to align your home routines with what we do at the centre.
Our care and learning
Because at our early childhood centre we believe providing safe, nurturing care is foundational to your child’s learning, development and happiness, we take time to get to know your child’s interests, strengths and needs.
Our play-based learning program is designed to develop your child’s full potential by focussing on loving, responsive relationships, built on trust. It’s essential for your little one to feel settled, and a sense of belonging, so they are able to explore and learn, and build trusting relationships with others.
And this comes back to our partnership with you too. Because once we understand your aspirations for your child, we’re better able to keep you involved at each stage of their development in our care, and understand how best to meet your child’s individual needs. Our regular chats, as well as Educa, our online portfolio and message board program, support us in fostering our relationship with you. We encourage you and extended whānau to participate in centre activities, including festivals, special occasions and cultural diversity events. No matter at what age you entrust your child to us, we look forward to celebrating amazing and memorable moments with them – and with you.
Kiwi Room (babies room)
We understand that loving, respectful care is essential to your baby’s wellbeing and development. That’s why you and your little one will love our calm, predictable room where your baby will receive unhurried care, in a settled environment. Because we offer respectful care, your infant will be offered choices in their indoor and outdoor experiences during their day, be assured of smooth transitions between activities and gentle moments of care during significant one-on-one times, like nappy change and going off to sleep peacefully. We want to work with you to integrate your infant’s sleep routine at home, as closely as possible in our centre. You’ll find that, once settled, your baby can sleep for extended periods in our care and we’ll be there to watch over them as they sleep and be there with a cuddle, when they awaken.
Our nurturing Kaiako spend time planning and creating beautiful, safe learning experiences inside, and in the outdoor play area. Babies typically love the sandpit! Then there is also our intriguing obstacle course, as well as other tactile surfaces and resources, giving your little one plenty of opportunities to investigate and explore their senses. To ensure you have a record of your child’s personal journey, progress and milestones at this very precious age, we document this in your child’s online portfolio (Educa) as well as keeping notes on their daily routine in their Journal.
Tūī Room (toddlers room)
Wouldn’t you want to know that your toddler is spending their days in a safe, loving environment where their curiosity, independence, creativity and developmental skills can flourish? Well that’s what you’ll find at our early childhood centre. Your child will feel treasured, secure and happy as we nurture their development and the foundation skills that are essential for them once they begin formal learning, and throughout their lives.
Your child will be engaged because we offer individualised and interest-based play. Indoors, your child will be invited to join in the fun with dress-ups, role-plays and group experiences - helping them to develop self-help skills, use of language through daily conversations, and activities that foster their social and emotional competencies. When they’re ready, we’re happy to work with you, so together, we can guide them through toilet training.
Outdoors, your toddler will be developing a healthy self-esteem while building their physical skills through climbing, jumping and other exciting activities to promote movement. Why? Because when children are moving, they are learning and developing the physical coordination skills that will become essential for them to succeed with reading, writing and sitting still at school.
Busy toddlers most often need a sleep during the day. So, generally sleep between 12pm and 2pm, we create a quiet, darkened room for them to rest and recharge. However, we’re happy to support their home sleep routine, where this is possible, in the centre.
We continue to ensure you don’t miss out on special moments and milestones by documenting your child’s developmental journey through their online portfolio (Educa) and daily journal.
Pūkeko Room (preschool room)
We understand the importance of continuing to nurture your child through affectionate relationships, build their self-esteem and foster their investigative skills as they move through the preschool years. That’s why in this room, we take our lead from your child’s interests and ideas. Our curriculum continues to focus on the development of their foundation skills as well as incorporating language and literacy; creative expression; fine/gross motor skill development; and social competencies including resilience, organisation, conflict resolution and persistence. Your preschooler will strengthen their individual capabilities through a variety of fun-filled programs, along with opportunities to explore technology as a learning tool.
And we don’t lose sight of the importance of real-life learning. Your child will be given opportunities to participate in real-life experiences, to extend their learning on the current room focus. This helps tamariki foster their enquiry and research skills through, for example, field trips. Then there is our daily ‘mat time’ where your preschooler will be engaged in group activities where they will be encouraged to recall events, re-tell stories and share their opinions. We’d love you to join us some time!
Kōtuku Room (transition to school room)
At around about four and a half years old, your child will be invited to join our transition to school group. This is where we have a program that is specifically designed to ensure your child benefits from a smooth transition into primary school. While continuing their enquiry-based learning though project work, we’ll weave in important opportunities through engaging, fun-filled programs, that extend their learning in focus areas like early literacy, science, numeracy and art. All of these.
Our experience has also shown us how helpful it is for your child’s transition, when they are given the opportunity to become familiar with certain aspects of the school day. So, we take them for visits to the new entrant classrooms of a local primary school, and we have specially planned ‘lunch box days’, in which your child will enjoy a packed lunch from Kindercare while learning how to open packets and wrappers independently.
It’s our way of helping your preschooler feel safe, guided and supported as they take that next big step of their learning journey - primary school.
Our world of outdoor play
It’s in the freedom of our safe, exciting outdoor playgrounds, that your child will be able to enjoy time playing, exploring, experimenting and learning with their friends, no matter what age you place them in our care. You see, we know that time outdoors, keeping active and moving is at the very heart of how your child brain is developing and growing. You may even want to spend some time outside with us because we know you’ll have fun!
A little about our team
At our daycare centre, serving families with love is at the heart of what we do. So, that’s why our passionate, skilled and loving Kaiako take the time to foster positive relationships with each child – so they know how to keep them safe, loved, and learning. By giving your little one their full attention and meaningful, unhurried interactions throughout the day, they build trust with your child.
From our whānau to yours: we look forward to forming a strong, supportive bond with you, because we are committed to ensuring that your child flourishes in our care.
We would like to invite you to visit our centre, where we will be able to show you around, introduce our team, and talk more in-depth about how we can best support your needs and aspirations for your child – and gently work together to transition your precious little one into our care. We look forward to being part of your child's journey at Kindercare.
