Transition to School
Like you, we want the best for your child. So we don’t compromise on safe, supportive, care and education. Our team works hard to ensure your family receives the highest standard of care for your weekly fee, which includes:
- a generous annual leave allowance
- a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at the centre daily – so you won’t need to pack kai
- healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning
- our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice and support for every family
Because every child has different needs, we ask that you supply your child’s own bottles, formula and nappies for each day.
If you would like to learn more about our fees, enrolment schedules or space availability, please let us know. We’re happy to talk through any questions or provide whatever information you may need, to help you make the best decision for your child and your family.
What’s the first step?
Simply give us a call and set up a time to come in. We’d love to show you our safe, loving childcare centre, where you’ll immediately discover an atmosphere that embraces tamariki, family and whānau, culture and diversity.
Why choose our centre?
Providing safe, loving care and learning since 2009, our ‘home-sweet-home’ is designed to care for your little one from infancy until they are ready for primary school. In our innovative indoor and outdoor spaces, we’ll nurture your child alongside other tamariki at a similar age and stage of development. Each environment is specially designed to provide the best possible care, learning, and social opportunities for your child’s unique needs. That’s why we are happy to offer enrolment options that include both full time, and part time care and learning.
Here, we believe we can support your child in reaching their full potential when they understand what makes them uniquely amazing. That’s why we’re proud to keep your child safe, loved and learning in a multicultural environment, where they’ll learn about and enjoy the experiences of other cultures. These include celebrations such as Christmas, Matariki, Chinese New Year and Korean New Year.
And that’s not the only benefit that lays a positive foundation for your child’s future. We also provide a leading Transition to School program, giving your child the skills they need for the smoothest possible transition to kura. This is furthered by our close proximity to three quality primary schools – Avonhead, Merrin and Russley.
Kiwi Room (babies room)
When it comes to your precious baby, we understand the importance of forming close, loving relationships at this stage of development. That’s why primary caregiving is the foundation of our safe, loving Kiwi Room. Primary caregiving begins with building trusting, reciprocal relationships with you, so we can get to know your infant and their individual needs. In this way, we can establish a nurturing bond with your little one, essential to us providing care and learning that enables them to reach their full potential.
Each day, we’ll engage your child in intentional conversations and in fun-filled activities like music and movement, sensory play, art and more.
We use our daily routines and transitions as opportunities to cherish your little one through loving one-to-one interactions. It’s our way of giving your child the care you want for them, and that all-important sense of belonging at our childcare centre.
Tūī Room (toddlers room)
We understand that toddlerhood can be a rewarding and challenging time - particularly as your ‘busy bee’ begins to express their own ideas and assert their individuality. That’s why in our safe, nurturing Tūī Room, we lovingly guide your little one as they develop their identity, social skills and ability to play with others.
We do this by recognising them as capable and confident learners - giving them the guidance, compassion and understanding they need, to learn and grow. So as part of our daily curriculum, we’ll encourage self-help and self-care skills such as dressing, undressing and toileting, while supporting their emotional wellbeing through affectionate and, encouraging interactions.
Your toddler will also learn through fun-filled, empowering group activities involving music, books, movement, imaginary play and sensory experiences. All of this, with our loving support to guide them on their individual way.
Pūkeko Room (preschool room)
As your little one gets closer to school age, we believe in continuing to embrace our holistic approach to their individual care, development and learning. And that’s what our safe, loving Pūkeko Room is all about. Here, your little one will participate in fun-filled, meaningful learning experiences, both planned and spontaneous.
In our calm environment, our tamariki are encouraged to lead their own learning by making choices to explore their imagination and creativity, using our play-based educational resources. Our Kaiako use a range of teaching strategies to build on your child’s independence skills, while supporting their social skills by helping them initiate and maintain friendships with their peers.
Takahē Room (preschool room)
As your preschooler grows, we understand the importance of continuing to foster their social and emotional development and other important skills they’ll need for school, and for life. And that’s why our safe, loving Takahē Room is the place to be. In this fun-filled care and learning environment, your child will participate in a wide range of activities based on their individual interests and needs.
These include conversations and play that develop social skills such as turn-taking, sharing and caring for others. We’re also passionate about providing your preschooler with opportunities that nurture their curiosity, independence, questioning, problem-solving, resilience and other social competencies.
Kōtuku Room (transition to school room)
As your child approaches the time when they move on to primary school, we understand the importance of building the skills they need for success in a formal learning setting. And that’s what our safe, loving Kōtuku Room will do for your child.
Here, we continue to place a strong focus on your child’s social and emotional development through our fun-filled ‘You Can Do It’ program that builds skills in resilience, managing emotions and positive social interactions.
We’ll also introduce your preschooler to early literacy and phonics through programs that allow them to take home stories and learn about alphabet letters and sounds. We will also work with them on related fine motor skills such as holding a pen and writing their own name.
Ongoing project work will help foster your child’s love of learning at this age, and when they go to school, including opportunities to research, focus, pursue their interests, and grow their knowledge on a wide range of topics.
And what would a Transition to School Room be without familiarising your little one with school itself? Through our close partnership with Avonhead Primary School, your child will participate in visits to the new entrant classroom, and playground. We’ll also provide real-life learning at our daycare centre through our fortnightly ‘lunch box days’ where our Kaiako guide your child through the school lunch experience by helping them prepare their own lunch, unwrap food independently, and pace their food intake.
All of this will give your little one the confidence and emotional support they need to thrive as they enter primary school.
Our world of outdoor play
Movement is at the very heart of your child’s intellectual, social and physical development. For this reason, we create safe outdoor spaces, with plenty of room for your child to play, explore, discover and make friends through physical activity. Time outdoors is not only essential for your little one’s growth and learning, it’s also an important aspect of ensuring your child is ready for their transition to the next room, and stage of development.
A little about our team...
At our early childhood centre, we are dedicated to providing the best possible care and education for your child. That’s why we are continuously learning and growing ourselves, through professional development opportunities supported by our Kindercare family.
That’s exactly how our team sees one another - as whānau. And it shows. Over the years, many parents have told us how much they value our family atmosphere, and how we have become ‘extended family’, to them. That’s because partnering with you to support your child’s individual needs is at the heart of what we do, and why we maintain reciprocal, open, honest and respectful communication with you, throughout your child’s time with us.
Our team make time to celebrate the culture and ethnicity of every family. We love learning from you as much as your child will, from us. While having heaps of fun along the way.
Many of us are parents ourselves, and therefore understand how hard it can be for you to put your child into daycare. We know it is a big decision, and we hope we can reassure you that at Kindercare Avonhead, you’ll find us totally dedicated to providing an environment that meets Kindercare’s core values – to keep your child safe, loved, and learning.
Your child will not leave our care without us having done our best to develop their full potential. At our centre, your child matters to us, and so do you. We would love the opportunity to welcome you into our centre family.
