  • healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning

What’s the first step?

You and your family are sincerely welcome to pop in at any time during the day for a visit, and a look around our safe, lovincentre. And we’d love for you to bring your child, too, so we that we can meet them and introduce them to Kindercare.

We’ll look forward to hearing about the needs of your child and your family, and seeing how we can support you through our dedicated care and learning.

Why choose our centre?

Since our early childhood centre opened in 2009, we’ve been providing outstanding early childhood care and education for children - from infancy through to school age. Through each stage, we’ll develop your child’s foundation skills, and help them prepare for their transition to school, with lots of cuddles, unhurried interactions and routines - throughout their journey with us.

Settled in the heart of Rototuna, our team will nurture your little one through caring, trusting relationships and play-based learning programs, and be there for you through open communication and caring support services, should you ever need them.

So, your child can develop their incredible potential, while you’re building the life you want for your family. That’s what really matters to us, at Kindercare Rototuna.

Our care and learning

When you choose our childcare centre, you’re choosing safe, loving, respectful care for your child, by a team who nurture a culture of kindness. So, you’ll find our centre is calm, happy and uncluttered. Just the place you’d want your little one to be cherished in.

Both indoors and out, our daily focus is providing play-based opportunities for your child, to help them develop their foundation skills that support each developmental stage, as well as ensuring a smooth transition to kura.

We also maintain strong relationships with our local community and businesses. It’s our way of supporting families, while benefitting your child through real-life learning experiences. These can include visits from our local librarians or firefighters, who share their skills and profession with our centre tamariki.

And to ensure your child’s nutritional needs are met, while they’re having fun, our experienced on-site Cook provides nourishing vegetarian meals for midday lunch and mid-morning/afternoon snacks.

We have tailored support services available for our centre families, should you request it. These include our Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) and the Family Services team. And as our way of helping other children and families in need, we also contribute to some community initiatives that help change lives.

Kiwi Room (babies room)

When you can’t be with your baby, we believe they should receive loving, respectful, responsive care in a ‘home-away-from-home’. So our safe, relaxed room for our infants offers this, and plenty of opportunities for your little one to learn and explore.

We believe in building loving, trusting relationships with your pēpi through gentle care moments, including holding your child, talking to them, smiling at them, and getting to know them. Because by calming and settling them, they’ll feel ready to learn and explore.

Movement is essential to your baby’s learning and development. So, while participating in activities such as singing, dancing and listening to stories, they’ll also engage in sensory-rich tactile experiences, and enjoy daily outdoor play in two separate playgrounds – one for the smallest babies, and one that is shared between older babies and toddlers. Both of these are designed to meet your child’s developmental needs

With so much fun to be had, we’ll ensure your baby doesn’t miss their sleep time in our peaceful dedicated sleep area. Here, one of our Kaiako will stay with your child until they fall asleep, and be there when they awaken. Just like home.

Tūī Room (toddlers room)

We understand your toddler’s abundant energy at this stage of development. So, we celebrate it by providing a safe, loving environment where children can delight in learning and exploration, while having heaps of fun.

Complete with soft furnishings and homely spaces, we’ll gently support your child to settle into our care and education through family and book corners; construction and science resources; and other table activities. In fact, they’ll have their choice of playtime activity, where they’d like to play, and whether they’d like to do so in a group or as an individual. Or, they can simply choose ‘quiet time’, if they need it. Indoors or out, your little one will have their pick from a variety of interest-based experiences, including water play, messy play, arts and crafts, active movement and sensory exploration.

Showing your toddler how to take responsibility for their belongings is another way we foster their independence. We do this by providing them with their own basket for their hat, jacket and other special things.

And when the time is right, we’ll partner with you to guide your little one through toilet-training.

Throughout your toddler’s journey, our passionate Kaiako will maintain a nurturing, affectionate relationship with your child, helping them to grow through unhurried interactions and lots of cuddles. All of this will support them in developing their amazing potential.

Pūkeko Room (preschool 1 room)

In this room, your child’s socialising will continue to be nurtured. Often, this is when lovely friendships start forming, greater independence is encouraged and individual interests and enquiry are supported.

In this intentionally created space for preschoolers, we take the time to observe and support your child to build their foundation skills, learn social skills and how to make friends, be independent, develop their individual interests, and question the world around them. And they’ll do this through play-based activities. Our mat times, for example, will provide regular opportunities for your preschooler to participate in fun-filled song and music sessions, dance or interactive stories. Whether it’s mat time or free play time, we’ll encourage them to use their whole body, both indoors and out.

We also begin to introduce early literacy in a play-based way through our delightful ‘Letterland’ program, which familiarises them with the alphabet letters and sounds through characters, songs and games.

At this stage of development, some children are toilet training, while others are catered for with nappy changes - it’s about knowing and understanding what your child needs.

Most importantly, your preschooler will know there’s a steady supply of cuddles from our loving Teachers, whenever they need them.

Takahē Room (preschool 2 room)

Once familiar routines and self-help skills are established, your child will be ready to transition into this room, where the fun and learning continue in a safe, relaxed, indoor and outdoor environment

Through group and individual play experiences, based on individual interests, your preschooler will continue to build foundation skills, with the loving support of Kaiako they know and trust. Your child’s all-important social and emotional skills will be strengthened through our fun-filled ‘You Can Do It’ program and we’ll foster their early literacy and numeracy knowledge, to start preparing them for school.

Kōtuku Room (preschool 3 / transition to school room)

As your child approaches that next big milestone of primary school, we understand the importance of preparing them for formal learning. So ensuring our tamariki have a smooth transition to kura is our focus in this room.

In a loving environment, our nurturing team will encourage your child’s natural curiosity and learning through fun-filled play, while developing those essential routines, habits and skills they’ll need for school. We’ll do this through group project work; enquiry-based learning; science experiments; researching topics; construction and deconstruction of their environment; and digital learning. We’ll also further develop their competence in early literacy, numeracy and writing and continue to build their social and emotional skills through our amazing ‘You Can Do It’ program.

Another way in which we prepare your preschooler for school is by engaging them in slightly longer mat times, where they’ll participate in ‘brain gym’ and other activities that help them build foundation skills. Our Kaiako will accompany you and your child on visits to the local primary school, to meet their New Entrant Teacher and familiarise them with school experiences. And your little one will love our ‘lunch box days’, where we guide them through packing, unwrapping and managing a packed lunch from Kindercare.

Your child’s weekly Cherry.bytes session will continue to encourage their natural curiosity, as they use technology as a tool to extend the current classroom focus.

Our world of outdoor play

Our outdoor areas are designed with a purpose – to encourage freedom to move and explore the world with their bodies, because when tamariki are moving, they are learning. So interest-based activities, that provide opportunities to be physically active and enable your child to take safe risks, are essential for healthy growth and development at any age.

A little about our team

At our daycare centre, our friendly, passionate, team embraces the diversity of your child, family and whānau. Our different backgrounds and language skills enable us to support a range of nationalities. And if there is a language we don’t know, we’re willing to try and learn yours - whatever it takes to help your little one settle in.

We also value our relationships within the community, including those with local businesses. These help us provide real-life learning opportunities about different professions, and introduce your child to new skills and experiences It’s our way of continuing to support your family - and the local services/businesses - while helping your child grow into a capable, independent individual.

You’re invited…

believe your child is a gift. I value the time I spend with them - listening to their stories, seeing them develop as they prepare for school, and offering hugs.

Because it’s not always possible for parents to care for their child at home, it’s a privilege for us to be able to support families by listening, sharing experiences, and offering support, if it’s requested.

You can feel comfortable leaving your precious child safely in our hands, because here, the adults who care for and educate your son or daughter will love them too.

With love

Linda
