Children’s Annual Leave Policy (Enrolments Beginning 1 December 2024)

Rationale

The purpose of this policy is to provide a benefit and assistance to parents and whānau in planning and managing those times when your child is away from the centre – for holidays, periods of sickness and/or for statutory holidays. As part of our commitment to working in partnership with parents and whānau, we reserve the right to flexibility and discretion regarding this Annual Leave, in order to accommodate and support unique circumstances of our parents and whānau.

Policy Details

The following policy applies from 1 December 2024, until further notice.

The Kindercare annual leave year commences on 1 December and ends on 30 November.

  • For the purposes of this policy, Annual Leave at Kindercare includes sick leave, stat holidays, and
    holiday leave.
  • All tamariki have up to a maximum of 3 weeks annual leave per year, from 1 December
each year, based on a pro rata of their current enrolment. Refer to calculator below.
  • Annual leave cannot be accumulated. Any days/weeks not used by 30th
November each year will not be carried forward.
  • Children who start during the year will be allocated proportionate leave up until 30 November of that year.
  • A $5.00 admin fee applies per day of absence
  • The $5.00 per day is an administrative fee that is charged for absence days, over and above any
government subsidies, including but not limited to the MSD childcare subsidy and 20hrs ECE
    subsidy.
  • Parents and whānau must advise the centre when they want absences deducted from their
annual leave allowance, and for the $5.00 per day fee to be applied. If Kindercare is not notified, full fees will
    apply for days of absence.
  • Additional leave days taken over and above the 3 weeks annual leave will incur the full fee
applicable to the child’s current enrolment.
  • Full fees will apply to Statutory Holidays unless parents specifically request these days be
    deducted from available leave allowance.
  • If you transfer your child to/from another Kindercare centre, any outstanding annual leave will remain available for your child.
  • Any time a child is re-enrolled within the same annual leave year, their enrolment will be treated
as unique, and a new leave balance allocated accordingly and at Kindercare’s discretion.
